This chilly turn has got me digging out the hot water bottle! I think an order of creamy coconut curry with cashew nut rice, coriander raita and mango pickle is just what you need to warm you up! Or maybe a slice of ginger and carrot cake with orange icing? Or maybe just a great big pot of tea? That's Friday's menu...
Last week I did a cooking demo for FIG at Woodthorpe Grange Grown Your Own event. Let's say my dish of sizzling, crispy, caramelised vegetables with cheese and home made (with Colwick blackberries) vinegar went down a treat! Literally scoffed within seconds of being plated up. I also juiced some blackberries and made them into lurid purple pancake batter and made pancakes with creme fraiche, apple wafers and dark sugar; these too, disappeared mighty quickly. The only downside was that I cooked said dishes in a greenhouse. Rather hot by the end of the day, but a great way to showcase locally grown and foraged-for produce.
So, on Saturday I'll be cooking up the savoury option again for my customers to try; a big crispy scoop of VegBox Hash drizzled with Honey, Blue Cheese and Blackberry Vinegar, served with wodges of buttery toast and a wee cup of Virgin Mary (Bloody Mary without the booze!). For pudding I reckon I'm going to make a splendid Marmalade Bread and Butter Pudding with vanilla and creme fraiche custard and lashings of crunchy organic brown sugar on the top.
This, coffee (really very nice coffee) and the papers makes for a lovely relaxing way to start up your weekend. So why not drag yourself down and bring a pal or three. It's only a fiver for two courses. Friday 10-6 and Saturday 11-2. It'd be lovely to see you.
