What a chilly weekend! I spent as much of it as possible sitting by the fire reading sci-fi! You need internal fire too in this weather to keep the body warm and so I've been looking at filling grains, warming spice combinations and opportunities to get the sweet/salty flavour combinations I like so much into a dish.
On Friday it'll be a slice of Moroccan Spinach and Cheese Slice served with a big scoop of nutty Butternut Squash Pilaf for something chewy, earthy and filling; something like a risotto that comes with a more of a satisfying jaw workout. This is served with Roasted Carrots and Parsnips with Buttered Seeds for a toasty crunch and is finished with a splosh of rich Pomegranate Molasses to complement the caramelised sugars in the roots.
Cake! There will of course be cake and this weeks it is Treacle and Ginger Loaf Cake and I believe there is still some Chocolate Chai Ice Cream in the freezer too...
For the Dr Bird FREE kids choir from 4.30pm to 6pm it'll be Pumpkin and Coconut Soup.
